THE GREENSBORO GRAPEVINE is a multi-disciplinary artistic game of "Telephone" that features the incredible artists, writers, filmmakers and musicians living and working and making new things in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Greensboro Grapevine is hosted by Scuppernong Books in downtown Greensboro, and is produced by The Storyhound Theatrical Detective Agency.
The Greensboro Grapevine is an experiment in art made simultaneously solo and through collaboration, and in the surprising results of profound misunderstanding. Most of all, The Greensboro Grapevine is a celebration of the creative spirit found in our lovely city of Greensboro.
Our first Grapevine was in April 2016, and was the result of four months of long-term collaboration between a musician, onto three poets, then onto three artists, then onto three playwrights. We started with an original piece of music by Greensboro band JOY ON FIRE, which inspired work by three local poets (TERRY KENNEDY, ASHLEY LUMPKIN, AND BRIAN LAMPKIN), which inspired three local artists (JUDY GLAZIER, DOROTHY SELLERS, AND WALTER FANCOURT), whose pieces then inspired three Greensboro playwrights (AL-DON SCHRADER, CARI HOPSON, AND MAC ROGERS). The project engaged in new work with a great crowd and twenty seven local artists - musicians, poets, painters and actors in one communal and super fun night, and also kickstarted the beginnings of The Storyhound Theatrical Detective Agency.
The next Greensboro Grapevine will take place October 15th at 7pm at Scuppernong Books. It's free, but seating is limited, so come early and have a drink!
